- Release notes for PrintTrack V2.0
-
- PrintTrack does one very simple job - it keeps track of who is printing to various printers.
- Every time a job is submitted from a Macintosh running PrintTrack, PrintTrack writes a
- record similar to the following:
-
- User Pages Date Time Printer Document
- DKovar 2 4/28/91 2:04:31 PM ImageWriter ReadMe
-
- Each field is tab delimited, so it's easy to import the file into a spreadsheet or database.
- The fields are:
-
- 1) User name. This is taken from the "Chooser Name". The Chooser Name can be changed by
- anyone.
- 2) Pages. The number of pages printed.
- 3) Date. The date the files were printed.
- 4) Time. The time .....
- 5) Printer. The type of printer used. (Future versions will also record the name of the
- printer used.)
- 6) Document. The name of the document printed.
-
- To use PrintTrack, simply drop PrintTrack in the System Folder and reboot. The file
- PrintTrack log will also be created in the System Folder after the first time that you
- print.
-
- This is a spinoff from our commercial product called "Authenticator" that provides security
- and printer tracking. Authenticator records the name the user logged in with to a file,
- rather than using the straight Chooser Name, so the printer tracking records the actual
- user name, rather than whatever the user put into the Chooser Name.
-
- PrintTrack is shareware. If you like it, we request that you send $20 to:
-
- Eclectic Associates, Inc.
- 266 Broadway
- Arlington, MA
- 02174

- If you have any questions about PrintTrack, Authenticator, or our services, you can contact
