  3. PrintTrack does one very simple job - it keeps track of who is printing to various printers.
  4. Every time a job is submitted from a Macintosh running PrintTrack, PrintTrack writes a
  5. record similar to the following:

  7. User            Pages     Date           Time            Printer             Document

  10. Each field is tab delimited, so it's easy to import the file into a spreadsheet or database.
  11. The fields are:
  12.  
  13. 1) User name. This is taken from the "Chooser Name". The Chooser Name can be changed by
  14.     anyone.
  15. 2) Pages. The number of pages printed.
  16. 3) Date. The date the files were printed.
  17. 4) Time. The time .....
  18. 5) Printer. The type of printer used. (Future versions will also record the name of the
  19.     printer used.)
  20. 6) Document. The name of the document printed.

  22. To use PrintTrack, simply drop PrintTrack in the System Folder and reboot. The file
  23. PrintTrack log will also be created in the System Folder after the first time that you
  24. print.

  26. This is a spinoff from our commercial product called "Authenticator" that provides security
  27. and printer tracking. Authenticator records the name the user logged in with to a file,
  28. rather than using the straight Chooser Name, so the printer tracking records the actual
  29. user name, rather than whatever the user put into the Chooser Name.
